16 Days of Activism Against Gender Based Violence -
“UNiTE to End Violence Against Women and Girls: Ensure justice, protect survivors, end impunity.”
During the 16 Days of Activism, 25 November-10 December, all Zonta clubs and districts are encouraged to take part in the Zonta Says NO to Violence Against Women campaign and to take local, national and international actions to influence the making and implementation of laws, as well as changing gender-based attitudes and behaviors to end violence against women.
The 16 Days of Activism Campaign, “Zonta Says NO to Violence Against Women” is one of Zonta International’s core project, linked to the UN Goal No 5. Equity for women. Orange is the theme of the Zonta Says No campaign as it’s the colour of the UN Sustainable Development Goal 5, gender equality.
The focus of the goal is: Providing women and girls with equal access to education, health care, decent work, and representation in political and economic decision-making processes will fuel sustainable economies and benefit societies and humanity at large.
The campaign is linked to the United Nations Goals and starts on November 25th, the United Nations Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women, and finishes on International Human Rights Day, 10 December.
Clubs around Australia and throughout the world take action in different ways to promote the message that violence against women and girls is not acceptable.
Zontians and friends will be a sea of orange as they walk across the Sydney Harbour Bridge on 6 December 2026 to bring awareness of the global pandemic of women’s rights violations. Walkers meet at Bradfield Park Milsons Point to begin the walk at 10.00 am.
Zonta Says No Yarn Wrap Installation at Circular Quay
District 24 clubs are participating in a high profile display at Circular Quay in the heart of Sydney, and dressing 15 trees in brightly coloured yarn, to raise awareness of the impact of domestic and family violence on our society. Each tree will have a sign emphasising that physical violence is only one type of domestic abuse, and encouraging passers-by to take action to “UNiTE to End Violence Against Women and Girls: Ensure justice, protect survivors, end impunity.” The signage will also appear in Arabic, Hindi and Chinese to maximise awareness and action within our multi-cultural community.
Special Event: NSW Vigil Collective – Unite Against Violence
District 24 will once again participate in the NSW Vigil Collective’s Campaign: “No More Empty Shoes". This powerful collaboration of over 30 frontline services across the state, is coordinated by The Marmalade Foundation (Lou’s Place), and sponsored by Sydney City Council. Join us on 25 November in Martin Place, Sydney, from 10.30 am to honour those tragically affected by domestic and family violence.
