The main objective of the District Finance Committee is that we have solid, low effort, procedures that allow all of us in District 24 to both:
- be very responsible in using the money given to us in trust to advance the status of women; and
- to do this in the minimum time possible.
As well as keeping the books of the District, the Finance Committee is required to keep the authoritative membership records for the District and ensure that we hold appropriate insurances for the activities we conduct. We also have a lot of ability to help Clubs ensure good governance without too much heavy administration.
Sharing what we know and what we learn is key to this, so the District Finance Committee is finalising a kit for Club Treasurers; and will also provide regular information to Clubs to aid them in their financial record keeping.
With that in mind, the topics that are prioritised for attention by the 2008-2010 Finance Committee are:
- better understanding of incorporation and the responsibilities it involves;
- proper administration in Clubs in relation to the authority to fundraise under State legislation;
- updates on the Australian Taxation Office requirements for associations such as Zonta; and
- similarly, taking note of recommended actions applicable to associations from the Accounting Standards Board.
Financial record keeping is just a means to an end, and the Finance Committee believes we need to achieve that end as efficiently as possible – leaving us time to focus on actual work to advance the status of women, not just keeping the financial score in the accounts.
