District 24 is part of a world-wide, non-partisan, non-sectarian organisation whose members are culturally diverse and from an array of working lives in professional, business, government and academic roles.
People who become members voluntarily apply their time and talents to working locally and globally, on a variety of service projects and advocacy initiatives that are designed to advance the economic, professional, educational, health, legal and political status of women.
We also have the privilege of being supported by a very broad cross section of the community who assist with fundraising or make donations, or who attend our working days to support the work done by our Clubs.
Working in New South Wales & the Australian Capital Territory to advance the status of women everywhere
In a ceremony held during the same week as the 100th anniversary of International Women’s Day, Australia’s Governor-General Ms Quentin Bryce AC, became an International Honorary Member of Zonta International. Ms Bryce joins Kay Cottee, Professor Fiona Stanley, Dr Catherine Hamlin, Gaby Kennard and Helen Caldicott in being recognised in this way by Zonta International.
District 24 members turned out in force to join their District 22 and District 23 colleagues at a lunch in celebration, as well as attending an incredible variety of events for IWD 2011 held right across NSW and the ACT.
International Women’s Day 2010 was celebrated by District 24 with an event at NSW Parliament House. Hosted by the Hon Richard Torbay, (then) Speaker of the NSW Legislative Assembly, we gathered in the Speaker’s Garden in support of 2009 Zonta International District 24 Honorary Member Gemma Sisia, originally from Guyra, NSW and now world-renowned as founder of the School of St Jude in Tanzania.
