Zonta Club of
Canberra Breakfast

We are supporting the women in Australia's National Capital by providing funding and hands on service, to advance the status of women:

  1. educational & professional - PhD Top up Scholarship with Mt Stromlo Observatory, ANU: A $5,000 top up scholarship awarded annually to a female PhD candidate studying at the Mt. Stromlo Observatory to support her living expenses.

  1. health - by supporting Karinya House, a refuge and support centre for young mothers. Canberra Breakfast Club donates funds and works with Karinya on projects such as working bees at their homes, and supply of kitchen packs.

  1. professional & political - by conducting the Young Women in Public Affairs Award, a Zonta International programme for young women aged between 16 & 20, not yet at Uni, who do volunteer work in their local community. Club applications open in October each year. There is a $500 prize from the Club plus the chance to win at District and International levels. Email the Club for an official application form.

  1. health - by supporting two District 24 Endorsed projects.  The Club makes Zonta Breast Care Cushions (read more) and Zonta Birthing Kits (read more).  Sew, Stuff and Sip sessions are usually held three times a year and we make enough cushions so that every woman in the ACT region who needs a cushion gets a cushion.

With a little help from our friends ...
In one mammoth effort, the Club gathered 200 friends, family and work colleagues together to make 3000 Zonta Birthing Kits in less than an hour!

Thank you for your support of our Pre-Loved Fashion Sale, held on Saturday 5th March.  We were overwhelmed by generous donations of quality clothing, jewellery, handbags, shoes & accessories. The event raised over $11,000, a wonderful achievement which would not be possible without so much  support from our community - Thank You!

The proceeds will go towards achieving our goal to advance the status of women in Canberra and internationally.  Watch this space for our 2012 Sale!

Saturday 30 July: Our annual Birthing Kit Assembly Day is approaching rapidly!  We hope to assemble 4,000 kits again - last year, 200 Canberrans helped us assemble 4,000 Kits which went to PNG.  (Read more about Zonta Birthing Kits).
